Used Anew Review: The ideal tool for removing sheetrock, whether during a complete deconstruction or a remodel project. The Estwing Geo/Paleo Pick is a lightweight modified version of the old grubhoes we used for various projects on the farm. We used the Geo/Paleo Pick in my former occupation to dig dinosaur bones and other fossils, so I didn’t immediately think of it for deconstruction work, but in search of a better tool to help remove drywall, this well-balanced, lightweight tool came to mind. At only 4 pounds, it’s light enough to use all day long, but it’s tough enough to handle the task with ease. The pointed end works great to make initial pokes through the rock to be sure you’re missing a stud. Then use the flat end to break through behind the sheet. When you find yourself at the edge of a sheet, with the right amount of tugging,  you can persuade the rock to break free of the nails or screws, leaving them behind in the  wood. You’ll still  break a lot of sheets into small patches but the number of larger pieces that come off the wall or ceiling with the help of the Geo/Paleo Pick is a real bonus! If all that rock has to be carried to a dumpster, the bigger pieces allow for fewer trips. The Geo/Paleo Pick speeds up any demolition job involving the removal of drywall. When time is money, the Geo/Paleo pick pays for itself in no time!

Next, we’ll try the Geo/Paleo pick on plaster & lathe. We think it will prove to be a tremendous asset there too, but we’ll let you know after we give it a good workout!  -  © Used Anew, LLC 2013
